Persicaria orientalis prefers consistently moist soil. Water deeply when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry, especially during hot, dry periods. Avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot.

Regular watering promotes lush growth and abundant flowering.

Prune back old stems in late winter or early spring to encourage new growth. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong blooming and prevent self-seeding if desired. Minimal pruning is generally needed otherwise.

Easily grown from seed sown directly outdoors in spring after the last frost. Seeds can also be started indoors 4-6 weeks before the last expected frost. Stem cuttings taken in summer can also root successfully.

As an annual or short-lived perennial, repotting is typically only necessary if starting seeds indoors or if grown in a container and outgrowing its pot. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one and repot in spring.
