It tolerates occasional flooding, making it suitable for rain gardens or boggy areas.

Pruning is mainly for aesthetic purposes or to control spread. Trim back leggy or overgrown stems in late spring or early summer to encourage bushier growth and more flowers.

Deadheading spent blooms can also promote further flowering and prevent unwanted reseeding.

Northern Fogfruit is easily propagated by stem cuttings or division. Take cuttings from healthy stems in spring or summer and root them in moist soil or water.

Divisions can be made in early spring, separating the plant's rhizomatous roots and replanting sections.
