Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Water regularly, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top few centimeters of soil to dry out between waterings once established.
Good drainage is crucial to prevent root rot, particularly in container plants.
Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming and prevent self-seeding if desired. After the main flowering period, you can cut back the plant to the ground to encourage a tidier appearance and potentially a second flush of blooms, though this is not always necessary.
Easily propagated from seeds sown directly outdoors in autumn or early spring. Seeds benefit from a period of cold stratification.
It can also be propagated by division of established clumps in early spring or autumn, separating healthy sections with roots.
Container-grown plants may benefit from repotting every 1-2 years in spring. Choose a pot with good drainage and use a well-draining potting mix.
Repotting can help refresh the soil and provide more space for root growth, especially if the plant appears to be outgrowing its current container.
