Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Macaranga schweinfurthii prefers consistently moist soil but not waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry to the touch.
Reduce watering slightly during cooler months, allowing the soil to dry out a bit more between waterings to prevent root rot. Ensure good drainage to avoid issues.
Prune Macaranga schweinfurthii to maintain its desired shape and size, and to encourage bushier growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches.
Light pruning can be done at any time, but heavier pruning is best performed in early spring before new growth begins to ensure vigorous recovery.
Macaranga schweinfurthii can be propagated from stem cuttings. Take 4-6 inch cuttings from healthy, mature stems in spring or summer. Dip the cut end in rooting hormone and plant in a well-draining potting mix.
Keep the soil moist and provide bottom heat for best results.
Repot Macaranga schweinfurthii every 2-3 years, or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a pot that is one size larger than the current one. Use a well-draining potting mix.
Repotting is best done in the spring, coinciding with the start of its active growth period, to minimize transplant shock.
