Water regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out slightly between waterings, especially during warmer months.

Reduce watering during winter dormancy to prevent root rot.

Prune to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove spent flowers and any dead or damaged stems. Light pruning in early spring can stimulate new growth and improve flowering.

Pinch back young plants to promote branching.

Propagate from seeds sown in spring, either directly outdoors after the last frost or indoors a few weeks prior. Cuttings can also be taken from softwood in spring or semi-hardwood in summer and rooted in moist potting mix.

Repot young plants annually or every two years in spring as they outgrow their containers. Mature plants can be repotted less frequently, when root-bound.

Use a well-draining potting mix and a pot only slightly larger than the current one.
