Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot, particularly in poorly draining soils. Reduce watering in winter.

Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage dense growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Light shaping can be done to control size and improve airflow.

Avoid heavy pruning into old wood, as it may not regrow. Regular, light pruning is best.

Propagate maritime ceanothus from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in late summer or early autumn. Dip cuttings in rooting hormone and insert into a well-draining propagation mix. Keep moist and humid.

Alternatively, seeds can be sown in autumn or early spring, often requiring stratification.

Repotting is generally not recommended for maritime ceanothus due to its sensitivity to root disturbance. It prefers to be planted in its permanent location as soon as possible after purchase.

If a young plant becomes root-bound, very carefully tease out the outer roots before replanting.
