Miscanthus ecklonii prefers consistently moist soil, especially during its active growing season. Water deeply when the top few centimeters of soil feel dry. Reduce watering in cooler months or when the plant is dormant.

Avoid waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root rot.

Cut back Miscanthus ecklonii to about 10-15 cm above the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. This removes dead foliage and encourages vigorous new shoots.

Wait until spring to prune to provide winter interest and habitat for wildlife.

Divide established clumps of Miscanthus ecklonii in early spring as growth starts. Carefully separate sections with healthy roots and at least one bud. Replant divisions immediately into well-prepared soil.

This is the most common and effective propagation method.

Repotting is generally not applicable to Miscanthus ecklonii as it is a large, perennial grass typically planted in the ground. If grown in a very large container, division is a more appropriate way to manage its size and refresh the plant, rather than traditional repotting.
