Avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot. Reduce watering slightly during dormancy in cooler months.

Prune Phyllostachys edulis primarily to manage its size, remove dead or damaged culms, and improve air circulation. Cut culms at the base as needed. Thinning overcrowded stands can also be done.

Avoid cutting healthy, green culms unless absolutely necessary for containment.

Phyllostachys edulis is primarily propagated by division of its rhizomes. This is best done in early spring before new growth begins.
