Musk mallow prefers consistently moist soil, especially during its active growth period. Water deeply when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry.

Reduce watering in cooler months, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. Ensure good drainage to avoid waterlogged conditions.

Prune back plants in late winter or early spring to encourage fresh growth and a tidy appearance. Deadheading spent flowers throughout the blooming season will promote more blooms and prevent self-seeding if desired.

Cut back to basal foliage after the first frost to tidy up for winter.

Musk mallow is easily propagated by seeds sown directly outdoors in spring or fall, or started indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. It can also be propagated by stem cuttings taken in early summer, which should be placed in moist potting mix and kept in a warm, humid environment.

As a herbaceous perennial, musk mallow rarely requires frequent repotting. If grown in a container, repot every 2-3 years in early spring into a slightly larger pot with fresh, well-draining potting mix.

This is also a good opportunity to divide overgrown clumps.
