Oceanspray prefers consistently moist soil, especially when young. Water deeply during dry periods, allowing the top few centimeters of soil to dry out between waterings.

Mature plants are quite drought-tolerant but perform best with supplemental water in arid conditions.

Prune to shape the plant, remove dead or damaged branches, and improve air circulation. The best time to prune is immediately after flowering in late spring or early summer.

Avoid heavy pruning in late fall or winter, as this can remove flower buds for the following season.

Oceanspray can be propagated from seeds, which may require stratification, or from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in mid-summer. Cuttings should be treated with rooting hormone and placed in a well-draining medium.

Seed germination can be slow and erratic.

Container-grown Oceanspray will benefit from repotting every 2-3 years. Repot in early spring before new growth begins. Choose a pot that is one size larger than the current one and use a well-draining potting mix.

Ensure the plant is not root-bound.
