Ohio Buckeye prefers consistently moist soil, especially during its establishment phase. Water deeply when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Reduce watering frequency in fall and winter as the tree becomes dormant.

Avoid waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root rot. Consistent moisture promotes healthy growth and leaf development.

Prune Aesculus glabra to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. This can be done anytime, but late winter is ideal before sap flow increases.

Shaping can be done when the tree is young to establish a strong structure. Avoid heavy pruning as it can weaken the tree and make it susceptible to disease. Thinning out crowded branches can improve air circulation.

Propagation is typically done from seeds collected in the fall. Scarify or stratify the seeds to improve germination rates; a period of cold, moist stratification for 60-90 days is often beneficial.

Seeds can also be air-layered or grafted, though these methods are less common for home gardeners. Sow seeds in well-draining soil in spring.

Young Ohio Buckeye trees may benefit from repotting every 2-3 years to provide fresh soil and more space for root growth. Mature trees are generally best left in their established locations.
