Water consistently during the growing season, allowing the top 2-3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter, providing just enough to prevent the soil from becoming bone dry.

Avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot.

Prune annually after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Light pruning can be done anytime to control size.

Heavy pruning is best undertaken in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Spearbush can be propagated from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in summer. Select healthy shoots, dip the cut end in rooting hormone, and plant in a well-draining potting mix.

Keep the cuttings moist and warm, and they should root within a few weeks. Seed propagation is also possible.
