Winged panicgrass prefers consistently moist soil but can tolerate brief periods of drought once established. Water deeply when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root rot.

Reduce watering frequency during cooler months or dormancy.

Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges. Cut back the old, dried foliage to about 5-10 cm from the ground.

This removes dead material, encourages vigorous new growth, and maintains a tidy appearance. Deadheading spent flower stalks can prevent unwanted reseeding.

Winged panicgrass is easily propagated by seed or division. Sow seeds in spring, either directly outdoors or started indoors a few weeks prior.

Mature clumps can be divided in spring or fall by digging up the plant, separating the root ball, and replanting sections.

Repotting is generally not applicable to this ornamental grass as it is typically planted in the ground. If grown in containers, select a pot that allows for root expansion.
