Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. In its native arid habitat, it tolerates drought well. Overwatering is the most common cause of problems, leading to root rot.

Reduce watering significantly during winter dormancy.

Pruning is usually minimal and done for aesthetic purposes or to manage size. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches using a clean, sharp knife or shears.

Pruning can also be done to propagate new plants from cuttings.

Easily propagated from stem cuttings. Allow cuttings to callus over for several days to a week before planting in well-draining soil.

Rooting is typically successful in warm conditions with bright, indirect light and infrequent watering.

Repot every 2-3 years, or when the cactus becomes root-bound. Use a well-draining cactus or succulent potting mix. Choose a pot slightly larger than the current one with drainage holes.

Repot in spring before active growth begins.
