Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Water regularly during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter, especially for potted plants, to prevent root rot.
Ensure good drainage to avoid waterlogged conditions, which this plant dislikes.
Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a compact shape and remove spent blooms. Cut back overgrown stems to encourage bushier growth.
Deadhead regularly to promote continuous blooming and prevent seed formation if undesired.
Propagate from seed sown in spring or take cuttings in late spring or early summer. Seeds can be sown in a light, sandy soil mix.
Cuttings should be rooted in a well-draining medium, kept slightly moist and in a warm location.
Repot container-grown plants every 2-3 years in spring before new growth begins. Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a cactus or succulent mix, with added grit or perlite.
Ensure the new pot has adequate drainage holes.
