Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Reduce watering slightly in cooler months, allowing the soil to dry out a bit more between waterings.
Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water, which can lead to root rot.
Prune to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or leggy stems at any time of year. Light pruning can be done after flowering to tidy up the plant.
Use clean, sharp pruning shears to make precise cuts.
Propagate by division or stem cuttings. Division is best done in spring when repotting.
Stem cuttings can be taken in spring or summer, rooted in moist potting mix, and should develop roots within a few weeks under warm, humid conditions.
Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound, typically in spring. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one.
Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a blend of peat moss, perlite, and compost, to ensure good aeration.
