Prune Polygonum setosum in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing stems.

Light pruning can also be done after flowering to shape the plant and encourage bushier growth. Cut back by about one-third to maintain a tidy appearance.

Polygonum setosum is easily propagated by stem cuttings or by division. Take 4-6 inch cuttings from healthy stems in spring or early summer and root them in moist potting mix.

Alternatively, divide established clumps in spring, ensuring each section has roots and shoots.

Repot Polygonum setosum every 2-3 years, or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix. Repot in spring before the start of active growth.

Choose a pot that is one size larger than the current one to provide adequate space for root development.
