Water regularly, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Deep watering is preferred over frequent shallow watering. Reduce watering in winter when the plant is dormant.

Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing canes. Thin out dense growth to improve air circulation and light penetration.

Easily propagated from seed sown in autumn or stratified indoors. Softwood cuttings can be taken in early summer and rooted in moist medium. Division of established clumps in early spring is also an effective method.
