Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Aquilegia pyrenaica prefers consistently moist soil but dislikes waterlogging. Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Reduce watering in winter to prevent root rot.
Ensure good drainage to avoid issues, especially in containers.
Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage more blooms and prevent self-seeding if undesired. After flowering, you can cut back the foliage to about 10 cm from the ground to promote a tidier appearance and encourage new leaf growth.
Aquilegia pyrenaica can be propagated by seed sown in autumn or early spring. Fresh seeds germinate best.
Division of established clumps in early spring or autumn is another effective method, ensuring each division has roots and shoots.
Repot container-grown plants every 2-3 years in spring or autumn when they become root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix.
Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the previous one to allow for continued root growth.
