Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in cooler months to prevent waterlogged roots, which can lead to root rot.

Prune to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Light pruning can be done year-round, but heavier pruning is best done in early spring before new growth begins.

Khat is primarily propagated by seeds, which require fresh treatment and are best sown soon after collection. Cuttings can also be taken from semi-ripe wood in summer, though germination and rooting success can be variable.
