Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Allow excess water to drain completely.

Reduce watering significantly during winter dormancy, only watering enough to prevent the soil from becoming completely parched. Overwatering is a common cause of root rot in Cycas circinalis.

Prune only to remove dead, damaged, or diseased fronds. Cut fronds close to the trunk, but avoid cutting into the trunk itself. New fronds emerge from the center of the plant.

Do not remove green fronds as this can stress the plant. Wear gloves as the leaf edges can be sharp.

Propagation is primarily done through offsets (pups) that grow at the base of the parent plant. Carefully remove offsets when they are a few inches tall and have their own root system.

Allow the cut surface to callus over for a few days before planting in well-draining soil. Seed propagation is also possible but slow.

Repot Cycas circinalis only when it becomes severely root-bound, typically every 3-5 years. Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a cactus or succulent blend.

Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one. Handle the root ball gently to minimize disturbance.
