Red Clover prefers consistently moist soil, especially during dry periods and establishment. Water deeply when the top few centimeters of soil feel dry to the touch.

It is somewhat drought-tolerant once mature, but regular watering promotes lush growth and flowering. Avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot.

Pruning, or more accurately, mowing or cutting, is beneficial for Red Clover. Regular cutting encourages new growth, more flowering, and can prevent it from becoming leggy. For forage, it's cut multiple times a season.

For garden use, deadhead spent flowers to encourage further blooms and prevent excessive self-seeding.

Red Clover is primarily propagated by seed. Seeds can be sown directly outdoors in spring or late summer. Scarification or inoculation with Rhizobium bacteria can improve germination and nitrogen fixation.

It can also spread by stolons, forming new plants, though this is less common than seed propagation.

Red Clover is typically grown in the ground as a field crop, cover crop, or garden plant, rather than in pots. If grown in a container, repotting would only be necessary if the plant outgrows its pot, which is rare.

It's generally better to sow new seeds annually or biennially if container growth is desired.
