Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common cause of Sempervivum death. In winter, reduce watering significantly, providing only enough to prevent the leaves from shriveling.

Good drainage is crucial to prevent root rot.

Pruning is generally not necessary for Sempervivum calcareum. Remove any dead or dried leaves at the base of the plant as needed for aesthetic purposes.

After flowering, the flower stalk will die and can be cut back to the rosette base.

Propagation is easily achieved through offsets (pups) produced by the mature plant. Gently detach the offsets with a clean knife when they have developed their own small root system.

Allow the offset to callus for a day or two before planting in well-draining soil.

Repot Sempervivum calcareum only when the pot becomes overcrowded or the soil is depleted. This is typically done every 2-3 years.

Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a succulent or cactus mix, in a pot with drainage holes.
