Chinese Toon prefers consistently moist soil, especially when young and during hot, dry periods. Water deeply when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

Mature trees are more drought-tolerant but benefit from regular watering during dry spells.

Pruning is primarily done to shape the tree, remove dead or damaged branches, and encourage new growth for edible shoots. Prune in late winter or early spring before bud break.

For harvesting young shoots, tip pruning throughout the growing season stimulates more production.

Chinese Toon is most easily propagated by seed, though germination can be slow. It also readily propagates from root cuttings or suckers. Plant seeds in a well-draining medium in spring.

Root cuttings can be taken in late winter or early spring and planted directly into the soil.

Young trees in containers may require repotting every 2-3 years to provide fresh soil and more space for root growth. Repot in early spring before new growth begins.
