Water regularly during establishment, especially in the first year. Once established, Redbox is drought-tolerant. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings, but avoid prolonged dryness.

Reduce watering in cooler months.

Prune to shape the tree, remove dead or diseased branches, or to control size. Pruning is best done in late spring or early summer after the main flush of growth. Avoid heavy pruning as it can stress the tree.

Seeds can be sown in spring. Stratification is usually not required. Germination can be erratic. Cuttings can be taken from semi-hardwood in summer, but are generally more difficult to root than seeds.

Young plants may need repotting every 1-2 years into a slightly larger pot. Use a well-draining potting mix. Repot in spring. Mature trees are best planted directly in the ground and do not require repotting.
