Water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry, typically every 2-4 weeks in the growing season and much less in winter. Overwatering is the most common cause of rot.

Ensure excellent drainage to prevent waterlogged conditions, which this agave strongly dislikes.

Pruning is generally not required for Agave asperrima, as it maintains a neat, clumping form. Remove dead or damaged leaves at the base of the plant using a sharp, sterile knife or pruning shears.

This also helps prevent disease and encourages healthy new growth.

Propagate Agave asperrima primarily through offsets (pups) that grow from the base of the parent plant. Carefully remove offsets when they are a few inches tall, allow the cut surface to callus over for a few days, and then plant in well-draining soil.

Repot Agave asperrima only when it outgrows its current container, typically every 2-3 years. Use a gritty, fast-draining potting mix designed for cacti and succulents.

Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one, with drainage holes.
