Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Ruta corsica prefers well-drained soil and tolerates dry conditions once established. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
In pots, water thoroughly when the top few centimeters of soil feel dry.
Prune Ruta corsica in early spring to shape the plant and encourage bushier growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or overgrown stems. Lightly trim back leggy shoots to maintain a compact form.
Avoid heavy pruning, as it may take a long time to recover.
Propagate Ruta corsica from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in summer. Root cuttings in a well-draining potting mix. Alternatively, sow seeds in spring, though they may take longer to germinate and establish.
Young plants will establish more reliably from cuttings.
Repot Ruta corsica only when necessary, typically every 2-3 years, or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix. Repot in spring before new growth begins.
Handle the roots gently to minimize transplant shock. Ensure the new pot has adequate drainage holes.
