Salvinia hastata requires consistently moist to waterlogged conditions. Keep the substrate fully saturated or submerge the plant in shallow, still water.

Avoid allowing the substrate to dry out, as this can quickly stress and kill the plant. Regularly replenish evaporated water.

Pruning is generally not necessary for Salvinia hastata as it is a floating aquatic fern.

If the plant becomes excessively dense, unwanted portions can be removed to improve air circulation and light penetration for other aquatic plants. Discard or compost removed material.

Salvinia hastata propagates easily through fragmentation and runners. New plantlets will naturally form and detach from the parent plant. Simply allow the plant to grow; it will spread readily.

Mature plantlets can be separated and floated to start new colonies.

Repotting is not applicable to Salvinia hastata, as it is a free-floating aquatic fern and does not grow in a traditional pot. It establishes itself on the surface of the water.

If it becomes too prolific, simply remove excess plant mass.
