Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common cause of root rot. In winter, reduce watering significantly as the plant enters dormancy.

Ensure pots have drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.

Prune to remove dead or faded flower stalks and to shape the plant. Cuttings can be used for propagation. Pruning also encourages branching and a fuller appearance. This can be done at any time, but best after flowering.

Easily propagated from stem cuttings or offsets. Allow cuttings to callus over for a few days before planting in well-draining soil. Water sparingly until roots form.

Offsets can be gently removed and potted up individually.

Repot every two to three years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one.

Repot in spring before the active growing season begins.
