Water regularly, especially during the first year after planting and during dry spells. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogged roots, which can lead to root rot.

Reduce watering in winter when the plant is dormant.

Prune after flowering in late spring or early summer to shape the plant and remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Light pruning can be done anytime to maintain size and density.

Heavy pruning can rejuvenate old plants, but may sacrifice flowering for that season.

Easily propagated from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in mid-summer. Root cuttings in a well-draining compost. Alternatively, sow seeds in autumn or spring, although germination can be slow and erratic.

Layering is also an effective method for propagation.

Young plants may benefit from repotting every 2-3 years to refresh the soil and provide more space for root growth. Mature plants are generally slow-growing and can be left in their pots for longer periods.
