Water regularly, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top few centimeters of soil to dry out between waterings.

Reduce watering in autumn and winter when growth slows down. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Cut back flowering stems to about 15-20 cm above the ground, leaving a few strong buds.

This plant is herbaceous and dies back to the ground in winter, so prune it like a herbaceous perennial.

Easily propagated from seed sown in autumn or spring, or by division of established clumps in early spring. Softwood cuttings can be taken in early summer, or semi-hardwood cuttings in mid-summer.

Root cuttings can also be successful.

Repot container-grown plants every 2-3 years in early spring before new growth starts. Use a good quality, well-draining potting mix.

Ensure the new pot is only slightly larger than the previous one to avoid excessive moisture retention.
