Pruning is primarily for aesthetic control and to remove dead or damaged culms. In spring, prune out any weak, old, or damaged canes at ground level.

You can also thin out crowded culms to improve air circulation and light penetration. Avoid heavy pruning during extreme weather.

Phyllostachys angusta is best propagated by division. In spring, carefully dig up a mature clump and divide it using a sharp spade or saw, ensuring each division has healthy rhizomes and culms.
