Reduce watering significantly during the winter months to mimic its natural dormant period, allowing the soil to dry out more between waterings.

Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins to shape the plant and remove any dead or crossing branches. This encourages bushier growth and maintains a desirable form.

Light pruning can be done throughout the year to remove spent flowers or stray stems.

Strychnopsis can be propagated from stem cuttings taken in spring or early summer. Dip cuttings in rooting hormone and plant in a well-draining soil mix. Keep moist and warm, ideally with bottom heat, until roots form.

Seed propagation is also possible but slower.

Repot young plants every 2-3 years, or when rootbound, typically in spring. Mature plants can be repotted less frequently. Use a well-draining potting mix and ensure the new pot has adequate drainage holes.

Avoid disturbing the roots excessively.
