Eastern swamp privet thrives in consistently moist soil and tolerates occasional waterlogging. Water deeply when the top few centimeters of soil feel dry.

Avoid allowing the soil to completely dry out, especially during hot, dry periods. Good drainage is important, even though it prefers wet conditions.

Pruning is best done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. This can involve removing dead, damaged, or crossing branches to improve structure and air circulation.

Light pruning can also be done after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth.

Eastern swamp privet can be propagated from seeds, which may require stratification. Stem cuttings taken in late spring or early summer can also be rooted in moist potting mix.

Layering is another effective method, where a low-hanging branch is bent down and covered with soil until it roots.

Repotting is typically only necessary for container-grown plants, and only when they become root-bound. This usually occurs every 2-3 years.
