Taurian ThistleOnopordum tauricum

Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter, especially if grown in cooler conditions, to prevent root rot.

Ensure good drainage to avoid waterlogged soil.

Pruning is typically minimal for Taurian thistle. Deadheading spent flower stalks can prevent self-seeding if desired. Remove any damaged or diseased foliage as needed.

Since it's often biennial or short-lived perennial, pruning is not for shaping but for maintenance and management.

Taurian thistle is best propagated by seeds sown in autumn or early spring. Direct sowing outdoors is often successful. Seeds may benefit from a period of cold stratification.

It can also be propagated by root cuttings, although this is less common and can be more challenging.

Repotting is generally not necessary for Onopordum tauricum, as it is often grown as an annual or biennial and can be quite large.

If grown in a container and it becomes root-bound, repot into a larger container in spring before active growth begins. Ensure the new pot has excellent drainage.
