Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Reduce watering significantly during winter dormancy, allowing the soil to dry out more between waterings. Avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot.

Overwatering is a common issue with Clivia.

Prune away dead or yellowing leaves to maintain a tidy appearance and improve air circulation. Remove spent flower stalks close to the base after blooming has finished.

This encourages the plant to direct energy into leaf and root development or future flowering.

Propagate by seed or offsets. Seeds require consistent warmth and moisture for germination, which can be slow.

Offsets (pups) can be carefully separated from the parent plant during repotting and potted into their own containers. Allow the cut to callus before planting.

Repot every 2-4 years, or when the plant becomes pot-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally gritty and slightly acidic.

Clivia prefer to be slightly root-bound, so choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one. Repot in spring before new growth begins.
