Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let excess drain away. In winter, reduce watering significantly, providing only enough to prevent the roots from drying out completely.

Overwatering is the most common cause of root rot.

Prune to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches, or to shape the plant. Use a clean, sharp knife or pruning shears.

Pruning can be done at any time, but it's best to do it after flowering or at the beginning of the growing season. Wounds will heal naturally.

Propagate from stem cuttings or offsets. Allow cuttings to dry and callus for a few days before planting in well-draining soil. Cuttings root best in spring or summer.

Use a rooting hormone to encourage faster establishment.

Repot young plants annually or every two years, and mature plants every 3-5 years, or when root-bound. Use a gritty, well-draining potting mix. Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the previous one.

Repot in spring.
