Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter to prevent root rot.

Ulex australis prefers well-drained conditions and is sensitive to overwatering.

Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Avoid heavy pruning into old wood, as this species may not regenerate well from old stems.

Light tip pruning can also be done to encourage compactness.

Propagate from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in late summer or early autumn. Treat cuttings with rooting hormone and place in a well-draining medium.

Alternatively, collect fresh seeds in autumn, stratify them by exposing them to a period of cold, moist conditions, and then sow.

Repot young plants every 2-3 years in spring, or when root-bound. Use a well-draining compost mix, ideally with added grit or sand.

Ulex australis dislikes root disturbance, so handle the root ball gently during repotting. Avoid overpotting.
