Watermint thrives in consistently moist to wet conditions. Keep the soil saturated or submerge the lower portion of the pot in a shallow tray of water.

Avoid letting the soil dry out completely, as this can stress the plant. Water more frequently during hot weather and less in cooler periods.

Regular pruning encourages bushier growth and prevents watermint from becoming leggy. Pinch back the tips of stems throughout the growing season. Remove any dead or yellowing leaves promptly.

For a tidier appearance and to control spread, you can also prune it back harder in late spring.

Watermint is easily propagated from stem cuttings. Take 4-6 inch cuttings from healthy stems, remove the lower leaves, and place them in water or moist soil. Roots typically form within a few weeks.

You can also divide established clumps in spring or fall.

Repot watermint annually or when it becomes root-bound, typically in early spring before new growth begins. Use a well-draining potting mix, and ensure the new pot is only slightly larger than the old one.

If planting in a water garden, repot into a weighted aquatic pot.
