Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead, damaged, or diseased wood. Thin out congested growth to improve air circulation. For groundcover use, prune to maintain desired spread and vigor.

For climbing forms, train new canes and remove old, unproductive ones.

Easily propagated by hardwood cuttings taken in late autumn or early winter. Semi-hardwood cuttings can also be rooted in summer. Layering is another effective method, as stems readily root where they touch the ground.

Seed propagation is possible but less common for maintaining specific traits.

Not typically grown in pots due to its vigorous, spreading nature. If started in a container, repot into a larger container or directly into the ground once roots fill the pot.
