Wildcane prefers consistently moist soil but can tolerate short dry spells once established. Water deeply when the top few centimeters of soil feel dry. Avoid waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root rot.

Pruning is primarily for aesthetic purposes and to manage size. Remove dead, damaged, or diseased culms at any time.

To rejuvenate the plant or reduce its spread, cut back old culms to the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges.

Wildcane is best propagated by division of its rhizomatous rootstock. In early spring, carefully dig up a section of the plant, ensuring it has both roots and shoots.

Replant the division immediately into well-prepared soil, watering thoroughly to encourage establishment.

Repotting is generally not necessary for established outdoor plants. For container-grown specimens, repot every 2-3 years in spring into a larger container when the plant becomes root-bound.

Use a well-draining potting mix and ensure good drainage in the new pot.
