Wingstem prefers consistently moist soil, especially during its establishment period and the hot summer months. Water deeply when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot.

Reduce watering slightly in cooler weather, but do not allow the soil to dry out completely.

Pruning is primarily done to manage size and shape, and to encourage bushier growth. Deadhead spent flowers to prevent self-seeding if desired.

Cut back stems in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges to remove dead or damaged material and to shape the plant. Removal of basal foliage can improve air circulation.

Wingstem can be propagated by division of clumps in early spring or fall. Seeds can be sown outdoors in fall or stratified indoors before spring sowing.

For cuttings, take softwood cuttings in late spring or semi-hardwood cuttings in mid-summer and root them in moist potting mix. Division is generally the easiest method.

Repotting is typically only necessary for container-grown specimens. Young plants may need repotting every 1-2 years to accommodate root growth. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one.

Repot in early spring before active growth begins. Ensure good drainage in the new pot and use a well-draining potting mix.
