Orange Mullein prefers well-drained soil and is drought-tolerant once established. Water moderately during its first year and during prolonged dry spells. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot.

Deadhead spent flower spikes to encourage reblooming and prevent self-seeding if desired. After the plant finishes flowering for the season, cut back the main flower stalk near the base.

Remove any dead or damaged foliage in late winter or early spring.

Orange Mullein is easily propagated from seed, sown directly outdoors in autumn or early spring. It can also be propagated by division of established clumps in early spring.

Transplant seedlings or divisions carefully to avoid disturbing the roots.

Repotting is generally not necessary for Verbascum phlomoides as it is often grown as an annual or short-lived perennial and prefers to be direct-sown. If container-grown, repot young plants into a larger container in spring if they become root-bound, using well-draining potting mix.
