Once established, Solidago rugosa is quite drought-tolerant, but occasional watering will promote healthier growth and abundant blooms.

To encourage bushier growth and more prolific blooms, deadhead spent flowers throughout the blooming season. In late fall or early spring, cut back the dead foliage to the ground to allow new growth to emerge.

This also helps prevent self-seeding if unwanted.

Solidago rugosa can be easily propagated by division of established clumps in early spring or fall. It also readily self-seeds, and seedlings can be transplanted to desired locations.

Stem cuttings can also be taken in late spring or early summer.

This plant is typically grown in the ground and does not require frequent repotting. If growing in containers, repot every 2-3 years in spring or fall into a slightly larger pot with fresh, well-draining potting mix to refresh nutrients and prevent root binding.
