Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry to the touch. Reduce watering slightly during cooler months, but never let the soil dry out completely.
Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
Prune to remove any dead, damaged, or yellowing leaves. This also helps maintain a tidy appearance and encourages bushier growth. Trim back leggy stems to promote a more compact form.
Pruning can be done anytime as needed.
Propagate by division of rhizomes or by stem cuttings. For rhizome division, carefully separate mature rhizomes during repotting.
Stem cuttings can be taken from healthy stems, with lower leaves removed, and planted in moist soil or water.
Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot that is one size larger than the current one. Use a well-draining potting mix, preferably one rich in organic matter.
Repot in spring for best results.
