Yaupon is drought-tolerant once established. Water regularly during the first year to promote strong root growth. After establishment, water deeply during prolonged dry spells.

Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot. Check soil moisture before watering; it should be slightly moist.

Pruning can be done anytime to remove dead or damaged branches. For shaping or to encourage denser growth, prune in late winter or early spring before the growing season begins.

Yaupon tolerates heavy pruning and can be shaped into hedges or topiary forms.

Yaupon can be propagated from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in mid-summer. Dip the cuttings in rooting hormone and plant them in a well-draining potting mix.

Alternatively, it can be propagated from seed, though germination can be slow and erratic. Stratification may be required.

Young Yaupon plants may require repotting every 1-2 years, or when they become root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix. Repot in spring before new growth starts.

Mature plants are best left in the ground and do not require repotting.
