Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Water Arctotheca forbesiana moderately when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. Reduce watering significantly during winter dormancy.
Ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogged conditions. Allow soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Prune Arctotheca forbesiana after flowering to maintain a tidy shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove spent flower stalks and any dead or diseased stems. Light pruning can be done in spring to shape the plant.
Heavy pruning is best avoided unless necessary.
Propagate Arctotheca forbesiana from seed or stem cuttings. Sow seeds in spring after the last frost. Take cuttings in late spring or early summer and root them in a well-draining potting mix.
Cuttings usually root within a few weeks under ideal conditions.
Repot Arctotheca forbesiana every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix. Repot in spring before new growth begins.
Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one to avoid overwatering issues.
