Argemone AridaArgemone arida

Argemone arida prefers dry conditions and is drought-tolerant once established. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.

Reduce watering significantly during cooler months to mimic its natural arid environment.

Pruning is typically minimal for Argemone arida. Remove any dead, damaged, or diseased foliage as needed to maintain plant health and appearance. Due to its spiny nature, wear protective gloves when pruning.

Avoid heavy pruning, as it may not respond well.

Propagation is best achieved through seeds sown in well-draining soil in spring. Germination can be erratic.

Some species may also be propagated from cuttings taken from mature plants, though this is less common and requires careful handling due to spines.

Argemone arida dislikes frequent repotting and prefers to be slightly pot-bound. Repot only when absolutely necessary, typically every 2-3 years, during the spring. Use a gritty, well-draining potting mix.

Handle with extreme caution due to sharp spines.
