Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Artabotrys madagascariensis prefers consistently moist soil but dislikes waterlogging. Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Reduce watering slightly during cooler, dormant periods to prevent root rot.
Ensure good drainage to avoid soggy conditions, especially in containers.
Prune Artabotrys madagascariensis in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches to maintain shape and encourage vigorous flowering.
Light pruning can be done after flowering to manage size and promote bushier growth.
Propagate Artabotrys madagascariensis from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in summer. Use a rooting hormone and plant in a well-draining potting mix. Maintain high humidity and warmth (around 24°C) for successful rooting.
Patience is key, as rooting can take several weeks to months.
Repot Artabotrys madagascariensis every 2-3 years or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a pot that is one size larger than the current one. Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally a blend for tropical plants.
Repot in spring, just as new growth starts to emerge.
