Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Water regularly, allowing the top 2-3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering in cooler months. Ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.
Overwatering is a common issue, so err on the side of slightly dry rather than too wet.
Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Heavy pruning can be done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
This stimulates new flowering wood for the upcoming season.
Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings taken in summer. Dip cuttings in rooting hormone and plant in a well-draining potting mix. Keep moist and provide bottom heat. Alternatively, air layering can be successful in spring.
Patience is key for successful root development.
Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix. Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one. Repot in spring before new growth starts.
This provides fresh nutrients and improves soil aeration.
